Racing

Cotswolds activity horse racing
  • All year except Christmas and Easter
  • The fabulous Thoroughbred race horse, first developed in 18th century England, has travelled around the world. Today, racing remains a hugely popular sport in Britain, not least because it is a sociable day out: live music, parades, shopping, children's entertainment together with a diverse range of food, all wrapped around the exhilaration of the racing itself. Going to the races brings you close to the action, watching horses parade before they run, enjoying the thrill of picking a winner. The British racing year is divided between flat racing in the warmer months and jump racing mainly in the colder ones. It is mainly on turf so weather can affect meetings in the winter.
  • Cotswold Horse Tours can arrange a package that includes racecourse entry, official race programme and a host of possible hospitality upgrades. Your expert guide adds to your enjoyment, explaining what is happening, spotting personalities, leading you to the best viewpoints for each race, helping you have a flutter with the bookies. Hospitality might be arranged at one of the racecourse restaurants but there is also plenty of ‘street food’ to try and that is part of the fun. Packages vary depending on group size and the many hospitality options.
  • Cotswold Horse Tours can arrange a visit to a local trainer's yard to see behind the scenes and watch the racehorses on the training gallops. Generally located in scenic countryside, it is easy to combine such visits with other activities as the training work is generally done in the early morning. Cost vary, depending on location and group size (min 2 people)
  • Racing is a non-riding activity and is excellent for groups and families.
